Lance Morris of Australia is doubtful for the tests in New Zealand due to a side strain

Lance Morris, a right-arm fast bowler for Australia, sustained a side strain on Tuesday while bowling in the third ODI against the West Indies, cruelly ending his dreams of traveling to New Zealand with the Test team later this month.

Morris helped Australia crush the West Indies for a pitiful 86, their second-lowest total in One-Day Internationals against Australia, with a performance of 2 for 13 with a maiden. However, the speedster clutched at his left side and exited the field three balls into his fifth over at Manuka Oval.

Shortly after, team personnel verified the injury. The fast bowler was evaluated and then brought back to the dugout, where he was seen applying ice to the affected region. According to cricket.com.au, Morris will have scans to ascertain the severity of the injury.

Morris was playing for Australia for the second time after making his much awaited debut in the first ODI last Friday.

Morris is scheduled to travel to West Australia on Wednesday, when he will start his recovery process. In order to be considered for selection for the next two-Test tour of New Zealand, which kicks off in Wellington on February 29, he must demonstrate his fitness by the end of this week.

After Matt Short’s low-grade hamstring strain kept him out of the third ODI, this was the Australian camp’s second injury setback in three days.

Short, who was included in Australia’s T20 team earlier in the day, also has a short deadline to prove he is fit for the next series against New Zealand.
