The triumph of Sehrawat last night due to technical superiority was a welcome development for the beleaguered Indian wrestling community. The community has been dealing with a number of problems, such as the sports ministry suspending the recently elected federation and young grapplers’ complaints.

This year’s competition is being held under the United World Wrestling (UWW) banner since the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) was banned by the international organization last year for violating the election deadline.

The 13th-ranked Aman defeated Turkey’s Muhammet Karavus, who was rated higher, 15–4. In the second three-minute phase, Aman gained the upper hand technically in twenty-one seconds.

The champion wrestler, who placed third in the 57kg division at the Hangzhou Asian Games the previous year, advanced to the semifinals after outlasting American grappler Richards Zane Raye Rhodes, who was rated 19th, 11-0, thanks to better technical skills.

Aman faced Georgia’s Roberti Dingashvili, a grappler with a lower ranking, in the round of sixteen. He defeated the world No. 16 11-0.

Aman had his work cut out for him against Wanhao Zou, the seventh-ranked fighter in the world, but the 20-year-old, who is renowned for spending hours honing his techniques on the mat, gave the Chinese a hard time and prevailed 10-0.

Freestyle grappler has silver and gold medals at the Asian and Commonwealth Games After losing to Kazakhstan’s Azamat Dauletbekov in his first round, Deepak Punia was unable to advance to the 86kg medal round.

He went out of the running for a medal after winning one match and losing the other in the repechage round.
