World No. 8 Prannoy HS and double Olympic medallist PV Sindhu will lead a formidable Indian team in the Badminton Asia Team Championships 2024, which will take place in Shah Alam, Malaysia from February 13 to 19.
The previous world champion in the women’s singles division will be supported by Ashmita Chaliha, Tanvi Sharma, the 16-year-old senior national champion, and Badminton Asia Junior Championship medalist Anmol Kharb.

This is one of the most significant competitions for our shuttlers because of the Paris Olympic qualifying, especially with the Olympics just a few months away. We also gave the senior national winners a call-up to the Indian squad. Sanjay Mishra, general secretary of the Badminton Association of India, stated, “These are very strong Indian sides, who are capable of going all the way and I am sure they will script history at the prestigious team event,” citing the BFI.

The women’s doubles competitors are Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, who assisted the Indian team in winning a record bronze medal at the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships 2023 in Dubai last year. The other two teams are the defending senior national champions Priya Devi Konjengbam-Shruti Mishra and the up-and-coming combo Ashwini Ponnappa-Tanisha Crasto, who won the Yonex-Sunrise Guwahati Masters 2023.

The men’s squad, however, will be captained by Prannoy, one of the most reliable shuttlers on the circuit who also secured his first gold at the BWF World Championships and his first BWF World Tour championship at the Malaysia Masters in 2023. Gold medallist at the Commonwealth Games Lakshya Sen, former world no. 1 Kidambi Srikanth, and newly crowned senior national champion Chirag Sen will join him in the quest for victory for team India.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty, who won six championships in 2023—including gold medals at the Asian Games and Asian Championships—as well as the Super 1000 tournament Indonesia Open 2023—will be in charge of the men’s doubles division. Suraj Goala-Pruthvi Roy and Dhruv Kapila-M R Arjun, the formidable senior national champion combination, will back the former World No. 1 team.

The Indian men’s squad previously took home bronze in the team competition in both the 2016 and 2018 runs.
