Australia and South Africa will play three T20Is before beginning a five-match ODI series. Mitchell Marsh will lead the team throughout the T20I series, which starts on August 30, in Pat Cummins’ absence. Not only will Cummins be absent from the T20I phase of the South Africa trip, but also a few more senior players including Josh Hazlewood, Cameron Green, David Warner, Aston Agar, and Mitchell Starc.

Prior to the ODI series, Cummins will be a part of the Australian team. The 30-year-old is unlikely to play in the first 50-over match against the Proteas, though, given his rehabilitation time. Marsh can continue guiding the side in Cummins’ absence.

Despite missing a number of crucial matches, Australia’s Chair of Selectors George Bailey believes Pat Cummins will have enough time to prepare for the ODI World Cup. In a conversation with ESPN Cricinfo, Bailey said that he saw Cummins’ injury as a benefit since it would allow the pacer regulate his effort.

There are still a few games left before the World Cup that he may play, which is more than enough for him to have a solid preparation, according to Bailey.

Australia will leave for India to begin their last preparations for the ODI World Cup after wrapping off their tour of South Africa. Before participating in the premier event, the five-time winners will play a three-match ODI series against India. The first ODI is scheduled on September 22.

Australia revealed their 18-man roster for the forthcoming ODIs and World Cup on August 7. Tanveer Sangha and Aaron Hardie, two uncapped players, have been called up, although renowned batter Marnus Labuschagne was not. In September, this 18-man team will be reduced to 15. However, there will be room for change up to September 28.
