While some taxpayers now have their tax refunds, others are still waiting.

Check to see whether you have e-verified your ITR if you submitted your return a long time ago but have not yet received a refund. If you forget to e-verify your return, keep in mind that submitting an ITR is insufficient and does not ensure that you will get a refund. Additionally, if you haven’t confirmed your income tax return, you may be required to pay a penalty of Rs 5000. According to the income tax division, in order to finish the return filing procedure, taxpayers must validate their income tax returns. ITRs are regarded as invalid if they are not verified within the allotted period.

Also watch out for phishing schemes that circulate on social media under the guise of a “income tax refund” message while people wait for their returns.

If a taxpayer’s tax payment exceeds their actual tax burden, they are said to be entitled for a tax refund. The tax department processes refund claims made by taxpayers on their ITRs and informs them of the refund amount to which they are entitled.

The CPC handles your tax return between 20 to 45 days after receiving and processing your ITR. The first thing to do if you don’t get your refund is to check the status at the e-filing site or NSDL.
