In the months running up to the ODI World Cup 2023, Suryakumar Yadav has continued to exhibit inconsistent play, and veteran Indian opener Aakash Chopra is concerned by SKY’s lackluster performance during the current West Indies trip.

The middle-order batsman scored 19, 24, and 35 runs in the three ODI matches, but just one run every 21 balls in the T20I series as India lost by four runs.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-114743″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-indias-rohit-sharma-the-captain-is-surrounded-by-supporters-in-california-the-video-goes-viral-download-2023-08-06t181444.043.jpg” alt=”” width=”1132″ height=”753″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-indias-rohit-sharma-the-captain-is-surrounded-by-supporters-in-california-the-video-goes-viral-download-2023-08-06t181444.043.jpg 275w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-indias-rohit-sharma-the-captain-is-surrounded-by-supporters-in-california-the-video-goes-viral-download-2023-08-06t181444.043-150×100.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1132px) 100vw, 1132px” />

The 32-year-old Surya is India’s lynchpin and has been given vice-captaincy for the T20I series. Chopra believes that Surya must score runs to keep the Men in Blue from falling behind.

The former cricket player turned commentator, speaking on his YouTube channel, praised Tilak Varma for impressing on his debut. The youngster top scored for his side, scoring 39 runs on a promising bow in international cricket, but Chopra felt that the number one T20I batter needs to perform well in the upcoming four matches.

You shouldn’t extrapolate too much from one game, said SKY (Suryakumar Yadav) at No. 3. Don’t pick at things too much. He truly like this format, according to Chopra.

Because the surface in Guyana won’t have been utilized, the ball may land on the bat, which would make him appear better. Despite Tilak Varma’s great start, who is the team’s lynchpin, Suryakumar Yadav will still need to score runs. In T20Is, he is the focal point of India’s batting. Therefore, he must score runs,” he said.

The whole Indian batting lineup had a lackluster performance in the first T20I and would be hoping to improve in the second match.

On Sunday, August 6, the match will be contested at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. India will be looking to make a comeback in the series, while the Rovman Powell-led hosts will be looking to further increase their advantage after winning the first match.

With a youthful Yashasvi Jaiswal available for selection, it would be interesting to watch whether Pandya and company opt to make some changes or go with the same playing XI for the second T20I.
