A former Indian selector on how Kuldeep Yadav recovered: “None of the Coaching Staff Came to His Rescue”

This year, Kuldeep Yadav has excelled and is now the favorite to earn a position in India’s World Cup roster. The Chinaman bowler has been having a tremendous run across all forms and now has the most wickets for India in ODIs with 22. However, this more developed Kuldeep emerged after a heartbreaking failure that caused him to lose favor not just with the Indian team but also with the Indian Premier League.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-113431″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-activists-vernon-gonsalves-and-arun-ferreira-will-leave-jail-as-soon-as-the-court-orders-their-release-in-the-elgar-case-medium-2023-08-04-163bcd2f69.jpg” alt=”” width=”1461″ height=”939″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-activists-vernon-gonsalves-and-arun-ferreira-will-leave-jail-as-soon-as-the-court-orders-their-release-in-the-elgar-case-medium-2023-08-04-163bcd2f69.jpg 700w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-activists-vernon-gonsalves-and-arun-ferreira-will-leave-jail-as-soon-as-the-court-orders-their-release-in-the-elgar-case-medium-2023-08-04-163bcd2f69-150×96.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1461px) 100vw, 1461px” />

Kuldeep’s career began to decline in 2019 and it seemed that his IPL team, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), had also lost trust in him. Prior to sitting out the whole 2021 season, he played only one game in 2020. Kuldeep, who was formerly regarded as the cornerstone of India’s spin assault, was having trouble making the squad.

But after finding a new home with Delhi Capitals in 2022, Kuldeep was able to recover in an entirely different form. He was trusted by captain Rishabh Pant and head coach Ricky Ponting, and as a result, the leg-spinner picked up 21 wickets in the season, which was also a career-high for him.

Other than the DC coaches, someone else stepped in to support Kuldeep when he was on the verge of losing trust in himself. Sunil Joshi, a former India selector, tells how he volunteered to save the Chinese bowler when no one else wanted to.

“Kuldeep Yadav’s dismissal from the selection committee included me. Who rescued the situation? Joshi told The Indian Express, “None of the coaching staff changed his delivery stride, front arm, arm speed, or ability to rip more rotations on the ball; I did.

Even Ravi Shastri, who was the head coach at the time, was astounded by the shift in the bowler’s approach since it was difficult to ignore.

Suddenly, Kuldeep Yadav is in the spotlight. What have you done with Kuldeep, demanded Ravi Shastri? “Ravi bhai, I haven’t done anything special,” I said. A bowling coach need to be performing these basic things. When you look at Kuldeep 2.0, he is sprinting toward the goal while also pointing his front arm and bowling arm in that direction. He has a shorter stride, a free follow-through, and moves in the air more quickly. You should see how he is now bowling, Joshi said.
