On his Hundred debut, Shaheen Afridi captures consecutive wickets in his first over

On August 2, Shaheen Shah Afridi had an explosive debut in the Hundred, taking two consecutive wickets for Welsh Fire against Manchester Originals in his first over. When Manchester had to chase down 95 runs off 40 balls in the rain-affected game, Afridi was given the task of bowling the new ball. Batters Philip Salt and Laurie Evans were both victims of Afridi’s ferocious inswingers. On the Hundred’s official Twitter feed, a video of the devastation was posted. “This is Shaheen Afridi, everyone,” the message said.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-109472″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-after-receiving-court-approval-gyanvapi-asi-survey-will-launch-tomorrow-and-up-dy-cm-predicts-the-truth-will-out-download-2023-08-03t182342.988.jpg” alt=”” width=”1316″ height=”986″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-after-receiving-court-approval-gyanvapi-asi-survey-will-launch-tomorrow-and-up-dy-cm-predicts-the-truth-will-out-download-2023-08-03t182342.988.jpg 259w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-after-receiving-court-approval-gyanvapi-asi-survey-will-launch-tomorrow-and-up-dy-cm-predicts-the-truth-will-out-download-2023-08-03t182342.988-150×112.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1316px) 100vw, 1316px” />

Afridi hit Philip Salt with a beautiful yorker on the opening pitch. The ball struck the English opener’s pads as he attempted to flick it to the leg side, leaving him out cheaply (LBW). The next delivery, Afridi kept the same length but pitched a little bit nearer to the middle stump.

The deadly speed perplexed newly arriving hitter Laurie Evans, who was unable to connect with the ball. It was another blatant LBW, so the umpire didn’t take long to raise his finger. Shaheen Afridi seems uninterested for the remainder of the game after the dominant first over. 24 runs were given up during the 23-year-old’s 10-ball session.

Looking at the game, Cardiff’s Sophia Gardens saw Manchester Originals win the toss and send Welsh Fire to bat first before the weather interfered. Due to the torrential rains that delayed the start of the game, the authorities chose to play 40 balls each side. Welsh got off to a fast start thanks to the opener, Luke Well. In only 23 deliveries, he scored 57 runs, a knock that included seven boundaries and three sixes. Welsh was able to score 94 runs in 40 balls because to Glenn Philips’ 19-run cameo.

Jos Buttler and Max Holden banded together to start the rescue effort after Shaheen Afridi destroyed Manchester’s top order. Both hitters managed to score 37 runs off of 18 balls and seemed capable of hitting the goal. However, the next hitters were unable to help them, and Manchester fell 9 runs short of the necessary total. Welsh Fire is in first place in the points standings after the first round of the group league.
