The report emphasizes how graduates should be encouraged to explore and acquire AI-related skills and knowledge as the rising need for expertise in the AI/ML domains opens doors to attractive job prospects.

Overall, 45% of graduates in India show that they are prepared to fulfill the needs of an industry that is always evolving. The research found that the employment chances for Indian graduates differed significantly depending on whether they had technical or non-technical abilities.

Data Science (57%), MySQL (57%) and Oracle SQL (54%) are additional tech talents with excellent employment potential, but Applied Mathematics abilities stand out with an exceptional employability rate of 72%.

Indian graduates have the best employability in AI/ML jobs among the desired positions, at 48%. The employability rate for the positions of QA Automation, Backend Development, Data Science, and Data Analysis is 39%.

The Financial Analyst function among non-tech professions has an employability rate of 45%, closely followed by Human Resources Associate at 44%, according to the Mercer | Mettl report.Project Manager positions have an employability rate of 39%, whereas business analysts have a comparable 45% employability rate. However, with a 37% employability rate, sales and business development positions show the lowest employability.

According to the report, there is a comparable employability range across graduates from three tiers of universities for new employment fields including backend developer, data scientist, data analyst, and QA automation.

According to the research, this pattern shows that students from all college levels have comparable opportunity to acquire these skill sets, maybe via self-learning and access to online courses.

“A rapidly changing job landscape calls for a nimble-footed approach,” said Siddhartha Gupta, Chief Executive Officer of Mercer | Mettl. “Our study reveals that Indian graduates are well-prepared to respond to the opportunity with the right skill sets.”

Future employment markets will be more dynamic than they are now, therefore it will be important to stand out by having an open mind and being willing to retrain and upgrade skills as needed. As the biggest tech-led talent assessment organization in the world, we firmly think that a cooperation between industry and academics in solving the gaps will go a long way in producing graduates who are ready for the workforce,” Gupta said.

The research is the result of a thorough evaluation of data from more than 2500 campuses and 440,000 students in order to determine the level of skill preparation of young India.

The research urges companies and educational institutions to close skill gaps in order to prepare India’s developing labor force for future needs and help them seize chances in a job market that is fast changing.

These data should help employers make wise hiring choices and enable graduates to match their skill sets to market needs, facilitating a smooth transition from school to the workplace.
