<p>Last week saw the premiere of the teaser for Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor’s love drama Bawaal, which centers on a couple with marital problems. The movie, which was directed by Nitesh Tiwari, has sequences that take place during World War II. In a recent interview with Galatta Plus, the director Nitesh Tiwari said he selected World War II because he wanted to “bring something fresh” to the screens, despite the sequences leaving the audience perplexed about the movie’s premise.</p>

<p>Nitesh said that he was unable to give any fresh viewpoints to the depiction of an Indian conflict, saying, “There has already been such great things done and in abundance by some of our most famous filmmakers in our nation on the past wars in which our country has participated. I personally believed that if I did that, I would be unable to bring something fresh to the screen.</p>
<p>After Vicky Kaushal’s Sardar Udham was released, Nitesh said that he cut a reference to the Jallianwala Bagh incident from an early draft of Bawaal because it “no longer remained fresh.”</p>
<p>I simply thought that maybe you know if I were to provide something unique for the audience, this was the way to go, he remarked. “We have done Indo-Pak wars and Indo-China war at Kargil and everything, and some very good stuff has been done.”</p>
<p>Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor worked together for the first time on Bawaal. On July 21, the movie will have its exclusive debut on Prime Video in India and in 200 other countries and territories.</p>
